To get your HD soundcard from intel to work, you have to create a file, or edit it, in the folder /etc/modprobe.d/, called alsa-base;
add the following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo
this worked on my ASUS F9E, sound is:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
